Letter - Media Reports Regarding Distance Tuition
4 July 2011
Dear Student
We hope that you are well and that you are managing your valuable time and efforts wisely between work and study as always.
You may have become aware of recent negative media reports regarding distance tuition and problems students are faced with at certain institutions. If not, and in line with our commitment to your success, the management of Oxbridge Academy has decided to create this opportunity to bring the issue to the attention of all our students.
The aim of this information document serves to eliminate the possibility of a generalised misconception, created by irresponsible media reports, that all distance tuition institutions are equally guilty of the alleged transgressions.
It is important to note that Oxbridge Academy is NOT the subject of discussion contained in any negative reports published or transmitted. It is however our intention to protest against gross generalisations, and it presents the ideal opportunity to assure our students of our unwavering commitment to service excellence towards our student community.
The following is a brief outline of allegations levelled at certain institutions:
- Study courses sold without available subject matter. Students are compelled to pay tuition fees for such courses.
- Students are prevented from cancelling study courses by being subjected to unrealistic cancellation procedures.
- Students have to endure excessive refund waiting periods after cancellation.
These are obviously unacceptable administrative procedures and constitute gross violation of consumer rights. While isolated administrative complications cant always be avoided, it must be contained and limited to occasional exceptions and not the norm. Oxbridge prides itself in an effective administrative system and realistic policy formulation that allows our students to concentrate on their studies.
We encourage and invite you to become creatively involved in streamlining our processes and procedures by providing feedback to us regarding course structuring and administrative issues. By participating in this, you effectively aid the academy in the regenerative process of continual improvement of its products to you. We furthermore encourage you to make use of our open door policy by reporting any relevant problems you experience to us immediately.
Oxbridge Academy is a respected private educational institution offering tested and proven distance learning solutions to our students. The wealth of vast experience accumulated over many years is at your disposal and we value the input of our students greatly. This interaction has been at the heart of our mutual success and we will continually improve ways of effective communication with our students.
Should you be aware of students at alternative distance tuition institutions, negatively affected by poor administration or policy issues, please do not hesitate to refer them to Oxbridge Academy. We will endeavour to assist them in finding viable alternative options in finalising their studies.
Kind Regards

EJ LIEBENBERG
ACADEMIC HEAD
