PURPOSE OF THE MODULE
This module is for people giving an induction of health and safety principles to new personnel and the learner credited with this module will be able to:
- explain the duties of both the employees and employers with regard to Occupational Safety and Heath in the workplace,
- understand the requirements that apply to persons entering the workplace and performing any duties therein,
- as well as the requirements for the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), housekeeping
and emergency procedures that apply to the workplace.
The qualifying learner is capable of:
- Explaining both employer and employee duties with regard to occupational safety and health in the workplace.
- Explaining the general safety rules in a workplace.
- Explaining the use and application of Personal Protective Equipment in a workplace.
- Explaining the need for good housekeeping in the workplace.
- Explaining and applying emergency procedures in the workplace.
OHS 102
PURPOSE OF THE MODULE
The learner will be able to:
- understand the objectives and statutory requirements pertaining to health and safety in the workplace,
- explain the rights, powers, functions and duties of the workplace health and safety representative and
- how any errant health, safety and environmental issues may be handled,
- participate in the safety, health and environmental structures and
- measure these activities according to health, safety and environmental requirements.
The qualifying learner is capable of:
- Describing the framework of workplace health and safety legislation pertaining to health and safety representatives.
- Explaining the specified requirements to conduct safety, health and environmental representation activities at a working place.
- Addressing safety, health and environment related issues within their scope of authority.
- Complying with the activities within safety, health and environmental structures.
OHS 103
PURPOSE OF THE MODULE
The learner will be able to identify and explain the legal and organisational-specific requirements regulating the reporting and investigation of workplace incidents. The learners will be able to complete the required reports and be able to process any physical evidence which may have been collected.
The qualifying learner is capable of:
- Describing requirements for workplace safety, health and environment incident investigation.
- Gathering information for workplace safety, health and environment incident investigations.
- Conducting post-investigation activities.

PURPOSE OF THE MODULE
The qualifying learner will be able to:
- Explain the legal and specified requirements for conducting continuous risk assessments.
- Prepare to conduct a continuous risk assessment.
- Conduct a continuous risk assessment.
- Initiate remedial action and follow up on Continuous Risk Assessment.
OHS 105
PURPOSE OF MODULE
The learner will be able to perform, initiate remedial action, report on and follow up a workplace pre-use, safety and/or audit inspection. The learner will also be able to explain the legal and specified requirements pertaining to conducting these inspections.
